Mission Statement

Without a doubt, technology has made life a lot easier for all of us, and has presented a lot of opportunities to us as individuals and as a society. Along these lines, it is the aim of PinoyTechie.com to help spread the use of technology for individual growth, and to help our country’s economy move forward. Indeed, this is a wonderful time to be alive, with technology developing at an exponential rate. There is thus a need to be current with technological advances and developments. In this regard, PinoyTechie.com strives to be of assistance.

Moreover, PinoyTechie.com seeks to be the portal, or at least one of the portals, of Philippine Technology. Let us not just be a community of individuals, but a community of web sites, blogs and online businesses, and let our collective voices propel ourselves, our endeavors, and the country forward.

All these goals, however, will be spearheaded by the PinoyTechie.com community, for -- to modify the popular saying -- more heads are better than one. Everyone therefore is invited to share his or her technological know-how with the rest of the community. The intended effect is to help the rest of the country, and hopefully, even the rest of world. The good news is that the site is set up so that everyone stands to benefit for sharing their knowledge. In other words, may we all help one another and be prosperous doing it. :)

You may include a product or service -- yours or someone else's, Filipino or foreign -- in our database by going to your Navigation Menu and clicking create content->product or create content->service. Only the product or service name/title is required, but it will greatly help other users of the site if you can be as detailed as possible with your entry.

For the purpose of reaching the international market, posting in English is encouraged. However, posting in Filipino is allowed.

So if you’re pumped up enough, you may start posting by registering and logging in. You may now go to the Posting Guidelines, and the Earning Guidelines.

Posting Guidelines

Learn all about how to post entries on the site.

Can I edit or delete my posts?

In the meantime, you can only edit your posts. The delete button will not work; it has been disabled primarily to maintain the integrity of the site's structure, particularly with respect to product/service and and review content types.

How do I add an event to the calendar?

Just use the event content type. Anything that is time-bound or has a deadline like a grant or workshop is considered an event.

In case of a single-day deadline, start time should be 12:00 a.m. and end time should be 11:59 p.m. or any specific end time.

How Do I Earn From Google AdSense?

You can earn from Google AdSense just by posting any kind of content type (ad, blog, event, job, review, forum topic, product service, etc.).

Here’s how it works:

1. You create an account with PinoyTechie.com if you're not yet a member of the site.

2. You create a publisher's account with Google Adsense if you don’t have one. You will be asked for the name of your site. You should, by order of priority:

a. Enter the name of your site -- http://www.mysite.com, for example -- if you already have one.

OR

b. Create a blog at http://www.blogger.com. You will then have a blog name in the form of http://yourblogname.blogspot.com. You should then enter this blog name when applying for a Google Adsense account.

OR

c. Enter the name of this site, http://www.PinoyTechie.com.

3. You enter your Google Adsense publisher ID (make sure it is in the form of 'pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' including the 'pub' prefix) into the designated box in the "revenue sharing" tab of your "my account" page on PinoyTechie.com.

4. You login and post entries of any content type (ad, blog, event, job, review, forum topic, product service, etc.) at PinoyTechie.com. Make sure that it is an original entry and/or you’re not violating anyone’s copyright.

5. PinoyTechie.com serves Google ads with every post you make. 70% of the time the ad is yours, 30% of the time, it's PinoyTechie.com's (in other words, the set-up is a 70-30 sharing of revenue).

You can test this by viewing the page source of your browser (in the Firefox browser menu, for example, it's View>Page Source). You'll see that 7 out of 10 times when you load a page and view the source (in the Firefox browser, it's View>Page Source on the menu), the Google AdSense ID of the ads is yours.

6. PinoyTechie.com visitors click the ads. You make money. PinoyTechie.com makes money.

Important: Do not click OR tell others to click on the Google ads served ON YOUR OWN POSTS. This is called click fraud, and you risk losing your Google Adsense account since Google Adsense is very strict about these things.

I have also enabled adsense click tracking to determine the users who may be clicking on their own posts.

7. Google sends you a check. Google sends PinoyTechie.com a check.

That's it. Good luck and happy posting! Laughing

How do I include a product or a service in PinoyTechie.com's database?

You may include a product or service -- yours or someone else's -- in our database by going to your Navigation Menu and clicking create content->product or create content->service. Only the product or service name/title is required, but it will greatly help other users of the site if you can be as detailed as possible with your entry.

How do I include photos in my post?

You may include photos in your post through hotlinking, that is, by inserting the URL or web page of a photo which is hosted or uploaded in a photo online service which allows embedding or hotlinking, like Flickr.com or Photobucket.com. (Register with these sites if you don't have an account with them yet. I personally recommend Photobucket.com).

You may do this by enabling the rich-text editor and clicking the 'Insert edit/image button' -- the button with the image of a 'tree' -- and entering the photo's URL and other details. So as not to break the format of the site, enter 400 x 300 (pixels) as the maximum dimension of the photo.

Make sure that you are linking to an image which allows hotlinking like the aforementioned web sites, or to an image hosted in your own site. 'Illegally' posted photos will be unpublished.

How do I include videos in my post?

To include a video in your post, just:

  1. disable the rich-text editor, or click the 'Edit HTML Source' button, and
  2. insert the embed code of the video hosted on a video upload service like YouTube.com in your post. (The embed code is the code with the 'embed' tag.)

Make sure that you own the copyright to the video or that you have permission to post it. Videos violating this rule will be unpublished. When in doubt, just link to the video.

How do I post product or service reviews?

You may post reviews by:

  1. Finding the product or service (Filipino or foreign) you want to review using the different search boxes of the site. Once you find the product or service, enter your review in the textarea provided beneath the product or service. If you did not find the product or service you want to review, you may create and include the product or service in our product database or service directory by going to your Navigation Menu and going to create content->product or create content->service.
  2. Posting your review on your blog.

How do I use my blog?

You may use your blog in the following ways:

  1. Record your activities related to technology.
  2. Share your thoughts about technological developments in the Philippines or abroad.
  3. Post helpful articles on technology, e.g. articles on earning online, software, gadgets, etc. Keep in mind that the more helpful your blog is to the site's user, the more likely he or she is to click on your Google AdSense ads.
  4. Review technology products.
  5. Use your blog as your personal diary.
  6. Any creative use can come up with -- the more technology-related, the better.

What language should I use in my posts?

For the purpose of reaching the widest audience possible, you are encourage to post in English. However, posting in Filipino is also allowed.
