With YouTube's impending upgrade to a revenue-sharing structure, some of YouTube's 'stars' may be poised to catch a well-deserved financial windfall.

There's the young singing sensation from Netherlands, Esmee Denters, for example, who's #23 in the Most Subscribed List (All Time):

and Filipino-American Christine of HappySlip Productions (#17 Most Subscribed, All Time):

It's about time that YouTube shared the wealth with the people who have contributed to its success.

For instance, another creative example of how this online video explosion was utilized to the fullest was in the case of the Lonelygirl team, who was actually a step ahead in taking advantage of the commercial possibilities of the video social networking model.

For those who don't know yet, Lonelygirl (#1 Most Subscribed, All Time) is the brainchild of three filmmakers who created characters specifically made for YouTube. Initially, they made it appear that Lonelygirl and the people in her lives were real persons, but once the cat was out of the bag, and after the ensuing hullabaloo and outcry was over, most of the people accepted the characters for what they were -- fictional -- like characters in a soap opera or dramatic TV series.

Once the Lonelygirl videos got popular in YouTube, the team moved to Revver.com which was one of the first video communities to implement a revenue-sharing scheme with its users. Although I now see that Lonelygirl again moved back to YouTube -- I'm not sure when and why this happened, but it's probably because of the aforementioned revenue-sharing announcement. (Please correct me if they ever left at all.)

Christine also has her videos up on Revver, but nothing compares to the traffic of the most popular video-sharing site, YouTube. Because in the online advertising world, bigger number of visitors means bigger income.
