The recent May 14 elections were proof of this. As the election results showed a victory for the opposition, Filipinos' combined use of mobile phones and Internet sites to raise public awareness in safeguarding the electoral process seemed to have paid off. Although election-related violations are still rife, civic action has become more creative and engaging.
